Who We Are

Transitional Accounting is a full finance function partner for mission‑driven and for‑profit organizations. We design, stabilize, and sustain financial operations so organizations can operate with clarity, continuity, and confidence through growth, transition, and change.

Our work is grounded in governance, documentation, and operational discipline. We build finance functions designed to perform consistently over time — not functions dependent on individual knowledge, heroic effort, or fragile workarounds.

Our role is to bring structure, clarity, and operational consistency to the finance function. In practice, this means replacing ambiguity with documented processes, strengthening controls, and ensuring leadership has reliable financial information to make sound decisions.

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is grounded in a simple premise: strong organizations are built on strong financial systems — the infrastructure that supports accurate reporting, informed decisions, and long‑term stability. Strong financial outcomes are not accidental; they emerge from systems that are intentionally designed, consistently executed, and continuously reinforced. This philosophy is expressed through four core principles that guide how we design, strengthen and support the finance function over time:

  • Strong Financial Operations → produce favorable operational outcomes
  • Intentionally Designed Financial Operations → produce repeatable processes
  • Documented Workflows & Controls → produce clarity, accuracy, and continuity
  • Disciplined, Governance‑Aligned Accounting Processes → produce reliable data

Lifecycle Model

Organizations move through predictable stages as their finance function evolves. This model is not a service — it is a lens. It guides us to meet organizations where they are, identify the right level of support, and design a path toward a healthy finance function.

  • Stabilize

Correct errors, make minor improvements: document baseline infrastructure to continue optimization.

  • Strengthen

Once stabilized, optimize systems, workflows, and controls to build strong Financial Operations (FinOps).

  • Sustain

Align strengthened infrastructure with actual processes to produce accurate, reliable, decision‑ready insights.

When the finance function is intentional and well-designed, it becomes a source of clarity and stability for leadership.

Our Approach

Our work begins with a holistic, systems‑first understanding of financial operations. Before recommending changes, we assess how people, processes, controls, data, and technology interact across the organization. This approach allows us to identify root causes rather than symptoms. Improvements are made deliberately, reinforcing alignment and strengthening the full finance function rather than creating isolated fixes. By understanding the system end‑to‑end, we ensure that corrective and strengthening efforts produce durable, organization‑wide impact.
